Global Language Education Services, Inc. (GLES) was founded by
Dr. Ashley J. Hastings to provide testing, consulting and educational materials for language learning and teaching.
Dr. Hastings is Professor Emeritus of TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia.
Dr. Hastings has over 30 years of experience in language teaching, testing and program design. He developed the FOCAL SKILLS approach, used by many intensive English as a Second Language Programs. He has helped many programs make the transition to FOCAL SKILLS.
Dr. Hastings created validated sets of Listening, Reading and Writing Tests that have been used in FOCAL SKILLS programs for over 20 years. The online versions have been in use by multiple programs since 2007.
Dr. Brenda Murphy, Associate Professor of TESOL at Shenandoah University, has for years been a leader in online ESL/EFL teacher education, and is a frequent presenter at TESOL conferences. Her specialties are language and culture, second language acquisition, language teaching methods, and English linguistics. She is well versed in the languages and cultures of Japan and Italy, and is also an accomplished musician.
Rosemary Painter, MSEd in TESOL, has taught English as a Second Language, trained volunteers in the field, served as a facilitator for Shenandoah University's master's program in TESOL, taught at both Eastern Illinois University and Western Illinois University, and authored a textbook for intermediate ESL/EFL students.
Dr. Barbara J. Wheatley helped design the FOCAL SKILLS approach. Dr. Wheatley has many years' experience in language technology as well as in teaching English as a Second Language.
